Cold would be the first word both enemy and ally alike would say describes Hildegard best--both figuratively as well as literally. On the battlefield, her steel is unyielding and uncompromising; she is as harsh and merciless as the icy aether that she wields with practiced ease. Scant few are those who know Hildegard beyond the mask of professionalism, and she would much prefer to keep it that way.Hildegard gives little away about her past; much of what is known is cobbled together from hearsay and what small details she lets slip through the cracks. Her skill with a sword seems to indicate a career adventurer with possible military experience, yet her knowledge of aether and medicine provides a glimpse into a mind just as sharp as her blade. On the surface, she may appear to be an adventurer, but Hildegard is far more inclined to seek out conflicts between oppressive rulers and a rebelling populace than she is to engage in mere exploration or accepting odd jobs. Up until the collapse of the Garlean Empire, Hildegard actively sought out subjugated states in conflict with Imperial conquerors. Now, she stands at a crossroads, forced to contemplate her future and purpose.
Hildegard spent an extensive amount of time fighting alongside the Bozjan Resistance, typically participating in both clandestine, irregular operations as well as taking the field in larger scale engagements. She fought alongside many a stalwart ally--as well as against many a formidable foe. Per recovered IVth Legion documents, her exploits in Bozja did not go unnoticed.
As a practitioner of red magic, Hildegard highly values self-discipline. She is dedicated to honing both her swordsmanship and magecraft, and is ever keen to push her limits. She has a particular interest in medicine, an odd fixation for one who's profession is bloodshed, but it may also be a glimpse of her past.
With the Empire fallen and its Legions scattered to the winds, Hildegard now finds herself without purpose. It is an opportunity to lay down her blade, but having lived so long on the battlefield, she now struggles to determine her path forward.
After the end of the war in Bozja, Hildegard vanished without a word. Her travels currently bring her to Ishgard, ostensibly just to sightsee or look for work, but she is oft seen asking questions in both the Brume and the Pillars, as if searching for something, or someone.
